Tuanita J. Lee
Indianapolis - Tuanita Jo Lee (Anita) went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 55. Tuanita was born on September 26, 1962 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Joseph C. Lee and Eva Talley-Sanders. She loved her two prized possessions, her beautiful daughters, Christina Greene and Lindsay Greene. She loved the Lord more than anything in the world and she loved doing his work. Whether it was at the church, helping and feeding strangers, mentoring troubled women, redecorating homes, working on computers, or just offering her kind and gentle spirit, she did these things with love, grace and compassion. Tuanita recognized her divine calling early in life and said "serving others" was what she was called to do.
In 2007, Tuanita joined Greater Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church (GSMMBC) and became a faithful and active member. Her dedication, commitment and love for her Church Family led to her appointment in December 2011 as the Recording Secretary and thus the Assistant Secretary for GSMMBC. She was involved with the Annual Health Fairs, the Promise of Purity Program, the Reverend Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner Program, and a host of other programs. Because of her artistic gifts and aesthetics for designing, she was called upon by several people and numerous organizations to design their bulletins, programs, presentations, etc. Tuanita was also known for her remarkable writing skills and exceptional proofreading skills; she was frequently requested by many people, including college students, to offer her critiques and her grammatical expertise.
Tuanita graduated from John Marshall High School in 1981 and went on to attend Martin University where she learned to speak Spanish fluently. She was fully trained on the viola as well. She was employed by Raytheon (formerly the Naval Air Warfare Center) from May 1988 to December 1997. In June 1998 until January 2008 she was employed at the IN/KY Regional Council of Carpenters Apprenticeship Training School. In July 2009, she began her career working for the Marion County Sheriff's Office until her transition.
During her brief moments here on earth, she was loved by so many and touched the lives of those she came in contact with. She is survived by her mother, Eva Talley-Sanders (Charles); father Joseph C. Lee Sr.; daughters, Christina Greene and Lindsay Greene; brothers, Joseph C. Lee Jr. (Sandra) and Oscar B. Lee; sisters Viva Lee-Shaw, Cherise Lee, and Deonna Lee-Hoyle (James); two nieces and six nephews.
Visitation for Tuanita will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with services immediately following at Greater Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 5502 E. 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46218. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.crownhill.org.
