Obituary - Marian Elaine (Lange) Sorensen
Born November 18, 1921, Died January 10, 2018
Marian was born to Harry F. and Florence H. Lange at the family farm just south of Burlington Iowa in Des Moines County; she had one brother Marvin (deceased). She attended Burlington High School and after graduating, attended and graduated from cosmetology school. She married James H. Sorensen on November 30th 1941, and they had 3 children, David (deceased), John, and Janet.
They raised their children in Burlington where James was a partner in the J. A. Schroeder Construction company and Marian owned and operated the Charm Beauty Salon on Summer St. for 25 years. After raising their children in Burlington they moved to acreage just outside of Wever where they had many family get togethers. Marian and Jim traveled extensively throughout the U.S. They both enjoyed the company of their families with Marian's being extensive in the local area. Marian loved gardening, playing cards, and was a master at sewing. She made most of her own clothes as well as Janet's.
Jim passed away in 1989 and Marian moved back to Burlington where she resided until moving to Sunnybrook Assisted living 3 years ago. There she was fortunate to have both former clients of the beauty salon and acquaintances from the community as fellow residents to share meals and Bingo. Prior to moving to Sunnybrook Marian was active in Golden Oldies where she and her sister in law, Marjorie Kurtz, would compete for the prizes and then enjoy a nice meal. On the days that there were no Golden Oldies they would enjoy each other's company and go to lunch. Marjorie was Marian's best friend.
Marian is survived by her son John and daughter Janet who both reside in the Pacific Northwest. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marion will be missed by those that knew her and those closest to her rejoice in knowing that she is now in the arms of the love of her life.
The funeral services for Mrs. Sorensen will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 19th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. David Mixon will officiate. Interment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

I would visit with her and mom always looked so nice and so enjoyed their friendship. I remember her and Jim through the years and I know my parents enjoyed their friendship. "She will really be missed at the beauty shop every week at Sunnybrook. Roxy and I truly enjoyed her smiles and kindness, often tried to get her to come out of retirement to help us with hair,..that was a no, she was enjoying retirement. Always enjoyed her happiness. "Sorry for your loss. Marian was a good friend and neighbor. Each morning I would get up to walk our dog and Marian would be at the kitchen window to wave. Marian also loved rhubarb pie which we shared many times. Kay & Lee Haring "
