GEORGE LEE BAWCUM, SR. Westfield, IN
George Lee Bawcum, 76, recently of Westfield, IN, passed away January 3, 2018. George was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 6, 1941 to the late James Glen and Ann (Woods) Bawcum.
George attended schools in Chicago, Illinois, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was married November 26, 1966 to Lynn R. Lindstrom of Riverdale, Illinois.
Mr. Bawcum's early employment was with Ford Motor Co. and later he became a member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters. He spent the majority of his career, 35 years, as a member of Local 150 of the Midwest Operating Engineers as a welder. George worked on many of Chicago and Indiana's iconic construction projects, including the building (and rebuilding) of McCormick Place and Chicago's Deep Tunnel Project.
George was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Bawcum.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years (Lynn); daughter Doris "Dori" Bawcum; son, George L.(Megan) Bawcum, Jr.; and daughter, Rosemarie Bawcum; grandchildren Leah Zubko; Renee Zubko; Andrew Bawcum; Charles Bawcum; sister Sandra (Jerome) Warfield; sister-in-law, Judith (Gerald) Bawcum; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Throughout much of his life, George enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved working in his vegetable garden, walking his dog, and was an avid reader and history buff.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
