Richard Badger
February 4, 1925 - January 12, 2018

Richard E. Badger, 92, of Rochester, MN. passed away on January 12, 2018 at Madonna Towers Benedict House in Rochester. He was born February 4, 1925 in Rochester, MN. to Robert and Verna (Searles) Badger. Richard was a graduate of Rochester High School. On September 8, 1945 he married Elizabeth Gilgenbach in Rochester. Elizabeth died in 2006. He served in the U.S. Army Pacific Theater during W.W.II from 1945 to 1946. After the war, Richard farmed with his wife, Elizabeth, in Cascade and Kalmar Townships until retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Oronoco Senior Citizens Group, Olmsted County Farm Bureau and Agribusiness organization. Richard served as a director for the Peoples Co-Op for 33 years and director of First Bank Rochester. He was a 4-H leader and received the Olmsted County Outstanding Farmer of the Year Award in 1958. He received several certificates for his soil conservation practices. He enjoyed his involvement with "Breakfast on the Farm".

Richard enjoyed fishing and traveling. His hobbies also included woodworking and card playing. At Christmastime, he liked making caramel corn for family and friends. In 2010, Richard was a recipient of the Veteran's Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his children, Beverly (Pete) Delisle of Rochester, Patricia (Woody Fair) Whiting of Jacksonville, FL. and Richard A. (Marie) Badger of Lake City, MN.; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, daughter Susan, three sisters and one brother.

A special thank you to Dr. Muhamad Y. Elrashidi, Mayo Clinic, Dr. Michael Messick and All Seasons Hospice staff for their care and compassion, and the staff at the Benedict House. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Seasons Hospice or Madonna Towers Benedict House.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester. Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN. and also, one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery Rochester.

I know my parents, Cy and Darlene Veerkamp, were great friends with Richard and Betty and loved to get together and play cards. "I remember Richard and his family, My sisters and I attended country school together with his children. That was district 30 next to the Till Farm. My parents new Richard and his wife because of 4-H and school. Richard was the first farmer in the Rochester area to have a milking parlor on his farm, he always had a smile and fun to be around, I give you our sincere condolence from the Miner Family."
