Wayne Steele
April 24, 1916 - January 16, 2018

Wayne Steele, 101, of Corydon passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Corydon Specialty Care. He was born to Emory & Phebe Atkinson Steele on April 24, 1916 near Murray, Iowa. He graduated from Osceola High School & Osceola Jr College in 1936.

He worked at United Food Market in Osceola & Great Lakes Pipeline near the family farm in the Osceola area from 1937-1942. He married Arlene McKnight December 24, 1942. They lived on a farm adjoining the Steele farm. A short time later they moved to High Point N.C. where he worked for Plantation Pipe Line Co. They later moved to Richmond VA for a short time. After the war they moved back to Osceola. He worked at Highway Lumber Co from 1951-1961. Then they moved to Corydon where he started a heating & plumbing business. This continued until 1974 when it was merged with Lammers Construction. He retired in 1986.

He is survived by his son, Ron Steele (Linda) of Geneva, Illinois; granddaughters Amy Harris (Steve) of Lisle, Illinois, and Emily Schoolmeesters (Jason) of Coon Rapids Minnesota, and great grandchildren Sadie Harris and Aaron, Noah, and Lydia Schoolmeesters, and a nephew Randy (Nola) Watson of Osceola. Amy and Emily have wonderful memories of him taking them fishing and playing board games like Sorry. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Above all he was a strong man of faith having accepted Christ as his Savior at age 13. He is now in his Savior's presence for all Eternity. He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, daughter Janet and sister Louise Watson.

A funeral service will be at Victory Baptist Church in Corydon at 10 AM Saturday January 20th 2018. Interment will immediately follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola. Memorials may be given to Victory Baptist Church. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com
