Marilyn Moore
December 14, 1929 - January 19, 2018

Marilyn Moore, 88 of Indianola and formerly of Corydon passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola.

Marilyn was born to Earl & Neola (Rickert) Bellon on December 14, 1929 in Wayne County, Iowa. She joined an older sister, Evelyn, a younger sister Wretha and brother, Donnie. Marilyn attended school at rural Wayne county schools and graduated high school from Allerton high School in 1947. After high school Marilyn taught school at a rural Wayne county one room school house.

Marilyn married Kay Clifford McMurry on August 8, 1948. They lived and farmed in rural Wayne county near Millerton, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Marcia Kay, Terry Lynn, Dennis Joe, Donnie Duane and Brenda Lee.

After Kay's accidental death in 1966 Marilyn continued to own and operate their farm. In 1970 Marilyn opened a restaurant in Millerton, Iowa. In 1972 Marilyn sold the family farm and moved to Millerton to continue operating the restaurant.

In November 1972 Marilyn married Rex Moore and welcomed Rex's daughter Debbie into the family. Marilyn and Rex continued to live and work in Wayne county for a number of years. In the late 1970s Marilyn and Rex purchased the grocery store in Allerton, Iowa. After selling the grocery store Marilyn was store manger for Casey's General Stores in Corydon, Iowa. Marilyn and Rex moved to Indianola, Iowa in 1993. During the years they lived in Indianola Marilyn worked at the Indianola Area Senior Center for seven years and then was employed by Kmart in West Des Moines for 16 years until her retirement in August, 2013. Marilyn and Rex spent their vacation every year they could camping and attending the great Iowa State Fair. This was a highlight of the year for them.

Marilyn was a very hard worker and a humble woman. It was never about her. Her children always came first in her life. She always wanted to make sure the children had new clothes for the start of school each year and she also always wanted to make sure that those boys had cars to drive. Marilyn was famous for her homemade chicken and noodles and her homemade rolls.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Rex, Her children Marcia Crooks and husband Ken, Terry McMurry and wife Barb, Dennis McMurry and wife Twila, Donnie McMurry, Brenda Vinton and husband Eric, Step daughter Debbie Fisher and husband Ken, Sisters Evelyn Bettis and Wretha Rumple, Sisters-in -law: Nancy Bellon, Lois McMurry, Elzan McMurry, brothers-in-law: Roger McMurry and Max Moore, 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Kay, parents Earl and Neola Bellon, brother Donnie Bellon, parents-in-law Ernie and Opal McMurry, Emmett and Hattie Moore.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 with Pastor CJ McMurry officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 10-11 am. Memorials may be given to Millerton United Methodist Church or The Refuge and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
