Ned Walter Pippert
August 1, 1927 - January 17, 2018

Ned W. Pippert, 90, died peacefully Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following complications of a fall. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Vinton with Pastor Jared Cline officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 19, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, with an honor guard provided by the Vinton Police Department. Ned was born August 1, 1927, in rural Dysart, Iowa, the son of Walter Jacob and Dora Bockhaus Pippert. He attended Monroe country school near Dysart. On November 14, 1948, Ned was united in marriage with Shirley Turner at the Garrison United Methodist Church. Ned farmed for 16 years before becoming a police officer for the Vinton Police Department. He served Vinton for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Ned was a member and Trustee at First Baptist Church in Vinton. He enjoyed flower gardening and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Ned is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Pippert, of Vinton; two sons: Kent (Janet) Pippert of Lenexa, KS, and Kevin (Kim) Pippert of Vinton; two daughters: Kathy (Dean) Luze and Karen (Tim) Bahr, both of Vinton; brothers, Dale Pippert of Vinton and David (Holly) Roseberg of Columbia, MO; sisters, Carole Ann Salger of Vinton and Rosemary (Dennis) Billings of Buena Vista, CO; 8 grandchildren: Gregory David and Scott (Nancy) Pippert, Lori (Dave) Bierschenk, Dan Luze, Gregory Shane (Barb) Pippert, Vanessa (Darren Bechthold) Bahr, Valerie (Josh) Rollins and Valecia (Mike) Zahorik; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Edward, Carl and Fred Pippert. A memorial fund has been established.
