Clarence "Bud" Harvey Ray, the son of Clarence Abner and Erma Evelyn (Hayes Wallace) Ray, was born December 11, 1928 in Coin, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89.
Bud spent his early years in Coin and Shenandoah. On August 5, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dale Jean Gillespie, they resided in Shenandoah. Jean passed away in 1979. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, he was stationed in Japan. He received Police Academy Training in 1961. On February 13, 1982 Bud was united in marriage to Lois Ann Merkle they, resided in Shenandoah. Ann passed away in 2009.
Bud worked for Mount Arbor Nursery from 1953 until 1961, then worked for the Shenandoah Police Department until is retirement in 1991. Bud worked two jobs most of the time, he also worked for Clark and Jerry Stanley and Bill Meyer over the years doing concrete work. He was a member of the Eagles Clubs, American Legion Post 88, Lions Club and the Elks. He enjoyed woodworking, furniture caning and refinishing, fishing and hunting. Bud was a thoughtful and loving husband, father, and friend.
Bud was preceded in death by is parents, brother Bill Ray, wives Jean and Ann, and great-grandson Kaiden Collier.
Bud is survived by his three daughters; Deb (Bill) Hillman of Shenandoah, Diana Kirk of Shenandoah and Darla (Terry) Mire of Hollister, Missouri, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Celebration of life memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.
Burial of cremains will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah with military rites provided by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 88 Color Guard.
Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Police Department.
