In loving memory of

Eugene (Gene) Sanchez
December 6, 1928 - January 22, 2018

In Memoriam
Eugene (Gene) Nicolas Sanchez, 89, passed peacefully at his home on January 22, 2018 of natural causes.
Descended from early Spanish explorers, Gene was born in northern New Mexico (Arroyo Seco) on December 6, 1928. His parents Juan Sanchez and Fedelina Romero had three children; Cipriano, Eugene, and Epimenia.
Eugene married his school sweetheart, Corelia (Cora) Cordova on August 17, 1944, in San Luis, Colorado. They moved to Wyoming that same year where he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. After forty-one years of faithful service to the UPRR, he retired from his Roadmaster position in June 1985. Gene and Cora moved to Fort Collins in 1986, where for a time they operated a small café, Cora's Concina, on Elizabeth Street. They made many friends and attended Vineyard Church of the Rockies.
Gene loved big-game hunting, fishing, and camping trips to the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming, with friends and family. He was an avid watcher of classic westerns and football (Broncos being his favorite team). Railroad memorabilia and politics were also of great interest.
Gene is survived by his wife, of 74 years, five children, 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings, one grandson, one great grandson, and one great-great grandson.
