Larry Edward Markey
June 13, 1947 - January 27, 2018

Larry Edward Markey, 70, died Saturday, January 27, 2018, at his home in Vinton following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Larry was born June 13, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Lowell Thomas and Mabel Alberta Murry Markey. He graduated from Carthage High School in Carthage, Illinois, in 1965. He attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, for one year. Larry worked for Hawkbilt in Vinton and John Deere in Waterloo. He had currently been working for Ideal Industries in Vinton, a position he'd held for almost 30 years. Larry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton, and he faithfully attended church there or at St. Mary in Urbana. Every weekend, Larry visited his grandchildren, and he also enjoyed attending their many activities. Along with spending time with family, he enjoyed his job and spending time with his friends at Mickey's. Larry is survived by his children: Barbara (Kirk) Page of Vinton; Bernie Markey of Hills; and Beth (Mike) Meade of Swisher; brother, Ronald (Beverly) Markey of North Fort Myers, FL; sister, Linda Gann of Carthage, IL; and seven grandchildren: Elsa, Eli and Carson Page, Isabel, Luisa and Cruz Meade and Lillis Markey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Melvin Smith; one brother, Thomas Markey; and brother-in-law, Ike Gann. A memorial fund has been established.
