Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Lee Beaty Smith, age 94, of the Independence Community will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Carlie Conner will officiate. Burial will be in the Martin Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Sunday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. & on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Smith passed from this life in Jackson Tennessee on Thursday evening, June 22, 2017 at the Elmcroft Retirement Home. She was born in Overton County, August 3, 1922 to the late Johnie & Bernice Taylor Beaty. She was a 1942 Livingston Academy Graduate, where she received several awards and was voted, most athletic. She worked as a secretary for many years at the Independence Elementary School. Mrs. Anna Lee was one of best southern cooking ladies anyone would ever meet. She loved cooking and canning and gardening. She loved genealogy and was a member of the Overton County Historical Society. She enjoyed basketball and sports. Known by many as the Granny Smith Cheer Team at all of her grandchildren ballgames, where she attended every game they competed in.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Merl Smith & wife Leigh of Livingston, TN; daughters, Winola Shelton & husband Dick of Bolivar, TN & Marvena Rose of Arlington, VA; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur C. Smith; daughter, Justine Hunley; grandson, Gregory Hunley; brother, Willie Beaty; & sisters, Elwanda Waller & Ilene McDonald.

Pallbearers to serve are Kenny Conner, Joe Conner, Bobby Byers, Johnny Jenkins, Jeff Cales, & Matt Conner.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Rod Flowers.
