Funeral Services for Mr. Loyd J. Hawkins, age 89, of the Hermitage Community in Nashville and formerly of Overton County, will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2017 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Dr. David Wheeler Bro. Douglas Hawkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided at graveside by the Honor Guard of the James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062 of the VFW in Livingston. The family will welcome friends on Saturday evening from 3 until 7 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.Mr. Hawkins passed from this life on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2017 at the TriStar Summit Medical Center, with his loving wife Mrs. Doris Smith Hawkins by his side. He was born December 23, 1927 in Overton County to the late John and Edna Stewart Hawkins. He was a 1951 graduate of Livingston Academy, and he also studied for 1 year at Tennessee Tech University. He loved to fish, working in the garden, going to the beach, watching Tennessee Volunteers football and basketball, and to travel with his loving wife, Doris.He is survived by his wife, Doris Smith Hawkins of Hermitage, TN; and nieces, Sonita Hawkins Stewart and Ginger Hawkins Ridgeway both of Hermitage, TN.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Emogene Copeland and Jewell Dean Reagan, and brother, John Thomas Hawkins Jr.and also his dogs, Happy and Poncho.Memorial Donations may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church by contacting Speck Funeral Home.
