"I have very fond memories of Uncle Keith, the many times that our family went to Parkville at Thanksgiving time and the few times we were able to stop in Winona for a brief visit, the last being this past November. When I look around, I don't see many "old" people anymore!"

Keith W. Marshall, age 95, of Winona, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Lake Winona Manor with family gathered at his side. Keith was born May 5, 1922 in Ree Heights, SD to Robert and Violet (Wareing) Marshall. He was raised and educated in South Dakota and Minnesota, graduating from Fosston High School, Fosston, MN. After graduation Keith joined the United States Army and served honorably as a First Sergeant and infantry platoon sergeant with the Antitank Company of the Eighth Infantry Regt, and Fourth Infantry Div. He also served as a platoon leader with the Antitank Company of the 275th Infantry Regt and 70th Infantry Div. in Europe during WWII where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Upon returning from the war, Keith married Dolly Nelson. They settled in Parkville, MN where they raised their five children. Keith worked for Magiflame and Ferrell Gas Companies in Virginia, MN. After retiring, Keith and Dolly enjoyed many years together in Parkville before relocating to Winona, MN in 2005. As a young man, Keith chose to serve God, and his unshakable faith in God and love for others was evident. Keith and Dolly opened their home for fellowship and many visitors throughout the years.
Keith is survived by his son, Wayne (Wanda) Marshall of Babbitt, MN; four daughters, Marilyn (Don) Pedersen of Harrisonburg, VA, Judy (Lowell) Hill of Elk River, MN, Jaclin (Jack) Gunnarson of Winona, MN and Jill (Rick) Monroe of Coeur d'Alene, ID; brother, Philip (Jeannine) Kiltie of Apache Junction, AZ; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years; two brothers, Leslie and Wilmer Marshall; and two grandsons, Geoff and Greg Sutich.
Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

"Keith was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. My wife and I (and a newborn baby) moved in next door to Keith and Dolly 20 years ago when they lived in Parkville, MN. They warmly welcomed us and we shared many conversations and a number of meals together. Keith was generous with advice about gardening or loaning tools for my many DIY projects on my older house. Keith helped make our end of the street a great area to raise our family. My wife and I remarked many times later that when Keith and Dolly moved away, the neighborhood began to decline. "Growing up in Parkville across the street from Keith and Dolly was always a pleasant experience for me. Never once was there an unkind memory. In the early 70's I would get babysat by Jackie or Jill and then as the 80's rolled in so did my hardcore lifestyle. Even though I was living in a fog, Keith never cast any negative comments about me, in fact they were always so optimistic and happy. They really shared to the youth how much they loved each other and did things together. As I matured and became a parent myself I often model my methods after the parenting we observed from our neighbors. Parkville is almost non-existent now, very few houses left and I am one of few left from the early years but I can assure you that all three of my children know about Keith and Dolly Marshall. Not only do we still live in Parkville but for 3 years my children and I lived in the Marshall house, then after I bought a newer house down the street my ex wife took over and now lives in the Marshall home. The memories keep living on in Parkville, MN and Keith and Dolly will never be forgotten in my family. It takes a village to raise a family and we had this kind of love in Parkville that is hard to find anywhere else.......God Bless you Keith!"
