"I remember Gene as far back as I started as a 4-H member in DeKalb County back in the early 90s. Being from DeKalb County, we met and competed against Overton County in so many 4-H events over the years. Gene was one of those agents that you could tell really cared about his 4-Hers and the program. He was also a great sport to pick at anytime we saw each other. He will certainly be missed. The entire Medley family is in our prayers. Rest in peace, my friend."

Sheridan and Rick Dulaney wrote on Sep 4, 2017:

"To Mara and her family, Rick and I are so very sorry to hear this terrible news. Just last Friday I was in Texas with Aunt Flo and Tanya had brought the digitized version of some old family movies . There were many that included Gene, especially at the beach. We laughed at how much fun we all had and how little we were. It doesn't seem right or fair that Gene was taken from you while still young, (and in my opinion, 62 is young). We will keep you in our prayers. Let us know if you need anything. Between Karen, Cindy, and I, we are keeping Aunt Flo informed. She is much too frail to travel right now. Fondly, Sheridan"
