Joyce Elaine Schappaugh

Mrs. Joyce Elaine Schappaugh, 83, of Burlington died 10:05 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Danville Care Center.
Born on July 8, 1934 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Milton A. and Eunice Irene (Scheckler) Mumme. She married Robert "Bob" Lee Schappaugh on November 27, 1955 in Burlington. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2007.
Joyce worked as a registered nurse at Burlington Medical Center for twenty years and at Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility for nineteen years. She was a graduate of the Burlington High School class of 1952 and Iowa Lutheran College's nursing program in 1955. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, reading, crossword puzzles, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children, Kirk M. (Tammi) Schappaugh, Kimberly R. (Rob) VandeVoort and Todd D. Schappaugh, all of Burlington; six grandchildren, Jason Schappaugh. Steven (Anna) Schappaugh, Sonya Schappaugh, Stefanie (Riley) Ball, Jacob (Stacy) Smith and Zachary (JoAnna) Freking-Smith; three step grandchildren, Jerome Allen, Allison VandeVoort and Joshua VandeVoort; and twelve great grandchildren, Austin, Mason, Azyza, Brooklyn, Emma, Grace, Grayson, Sofia, Declan, Lilliana, Oliver, Dillon and Freya.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.
The funeral service for Mrs. Schappaugh will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2018 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Ryan Cosgrove will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 4, at Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for Iowa Lions Eye Bank and Trinity Lutheran Church.
