"My Dad passed away yesterday Sunday February 4, 2018 at 9:27am! About an hour after I posted a video on Facebook concerned that my Dad was very sick! After posting that video I was getting ready to take a shower before driving over to Abington Hospital to be with him all day and night, and was gonna watch the Super Bowl with him too! My Mother who was just leaving her house to go to the hospital got the phone call from the hospital that he had just passed, she called me right afterwards and I started crying! I then drove over and picked my Mom up instead of her driving by herself and we went to the hospital together! All that time, day and night, that we spent with him, and relatives came to visit, he passes with nobody there! My cousin Tony Serrao told us he visited my Father that morning and left his hospital room 12 minutes before he passed! I guess my Dad was happy just having God hold his hand and not letting any of us see him pass? When my Mother and I got there, his hospital room door was closed and we went in and kissed him goodbye and told him we were sorry we weren't here but we felt at peace because he wasn't suffering anymore! My cousin Dave Mastromatto came to visit and was shocked that my Dad had passed and we let him say goodbye also! Afterwards, we made funeral arrangements which I will post by tomorrow but we are hoping for everything all in one day next Saturday at St. Anthony's Church in Ambler! Last night I took my Mom, my wife Theresa & my cousin Ralph Iennaco out to dinner! (Ralph who lives in Virginia but was working in Maryland drove all the way up just to see my Mom and give her a hug). Afterwards, my Mom wanted to watch the Super Bowl at home by herself and I went home to our condo with Theresa and we watched the Super Bowl together! After the Eagles won I hugged and kissed my wife Theresa and called my Mother on the phone and we were all happy! I then got in my car to drive down to Ambler and got phone calls from my sister-inlaw Karina Carden, my Godfather Uncle Vito Delpolo, my cousin Fifi Serrao, my brother-inlaw Rob Knox, and my cousin Scott Mastromatto and we all were so happy that the Eagles won! As I drove down to Ambler I could see fireworks going off in the air! When I got to Ambler I parked my car on Race Street near Decks Hardware and walked up Butler Ave as cars were driving by honking their horns! At Butler Ave near Ritas Water Ice I was hugging everybody and video taped the great crowd of people happy that the Eagles won the Super Bowl!! I will post that video shortly! I would just like to say a few things about my Father! My Dad was the nicest man in the world and one tough son of a gun! Truely tough as nails! He was the comeback kid and he just never gave up till his body couldn't take it anymore! He loved his wife who he was married to for 64 years, he loved his kids, he loved his grandchildren and he loved all of his family & friends! He loved hanging out at the Sons Of Italy Club in Ambler with his friends back in the day. He loved golfing with his close friends Chet McChesney and Pete Pasceri when he was younger! He was always proud to play for the undefeated Ambler Trojans Football Team of 1952! He loved the Eagles and Phillies, and he loved to hunt, he loved to fish at St Mary's Villa Lake in Ambler, he loved watching sports & western movies, he loved his fig trees, he loved his fish pond that he made in the backyard where he also built a wishing well and patio, he loved his garden, he loved to cook (I'm gonna miss his Sunday morning fried meatballs) and he most of all loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren Alexa, Mia and Sophia! He loved Ambler and lived there his entire life (A TRUE AMBLER BOY)! I loved watching the Eagles & Phillies games with him on TV at home! I loved watching movies with him on TV at home! I loved watching the old Dean Martin Roasts on TV with him at home where we would laugh together! I loved when he would come watch me play baseball games at Pickering Field when I was a kid! I loved when after a hard days work as a bricklayer I would see him sitting in his truck in the parking lot at the old Wissahickon High School Baseball Field, he would never come down to the field because he would be all dirty from working hard all day but would watch me play high school, american legion and semi-pro baseball games on that field for over 20 years and would smile from his truck and give me a thumbs up when I would get a hit! He was proud of me for becoming a high school & semi-pro baseball umpire for 24 years! I loved hearing him talk about the good ol' days in Ambler back in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's! I loved helping him with his fig trees and garden every spring & summer! I loved taking him to Phillies games down in Philly! I loved going to family parties with him! And I loved eating his food because that man was the greatest cook! I especially loved his speghetti with white clam sauce, his Sunday morning gravy with meatballs for Sunday pasta dinners and his Sunday morning fried meatballs which he wrote down his recipe for me 2 weeks ago! He was a great bricklayer for over 50 years who would be proud to tell me every time he would drive by something he built, that he built it! He even drove those big lawn movers for my brother Albert's landscaping business for 8 years till he was 79 years old with a cigar in his mouth even when the weather was 100 degrees! He loved driving around Ambler with his car window open listening to Frank Sinatra music and his favorite song was MY WAY! I always enjoyed watching him dancing with my mother at weddings because they both danced great together! He will be buried in his Eagles hat and Ambler High School #20 jersey that his close friend and best man at his wedding Frank Catanzaro had made for him and bought for him 2 weeks ago! I know he was in heaven last night watching the Eagles game with his 6 brothers Carl, Mike, Leonard, Tom, John and George, his sister Nora, his Parents, my Grandmom & Grandpop Serrao, Uncle Chickie & Uncle Sammy Serrao, Aunt Angie Iennaco, Aunt Rosie Serrao, Aunt Josie DelPopolo, and his best friends Carmen Zafferano, Nicodemus Catanzaro, Tiny Forte and Bertie Roberto! I lived with my parents for 50 years before getting married and nobody knows my parents better then I do! Even though I couldn't watch the Super Bowl with him, I knew he was with all his family, friends and God watching it in Heaven! And when we needed the Eagles defense to finally put the clamps on the Patriots, I was praying for my Father if he could hear me, to help the Eagles win and BOOM TOM BRADY FUMBLES! MY DAD WAS A GREAT DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL PLAYER AND I TRUELY BELIEVE HE STUCK HIS HAND DOWN FROM HEAVEN AND CAUSED THAT FUMBLE! THE EAGLES WON ONE FOR MY DAD AND ALL OF US ARE SUPER BOWL CHAMPS AND NOBODY CAN TAKE THAT AWAY FROM US! THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD LOSE MY FATHER AND THE SUPER BOWL ALL IN ONE DAY! THAT WAS MORE THEN JUST A FOOTBALL GAME TO ME...FUGGETABOUTIT!!! "
