Gerald Gengler, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at All Saints Parish-St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to All Saints Parish-St. James Catholic Church.Gerald Joseph Gengler was born on June 18, 1931 in Le Mars to Joseph A. and Mary (Vainrib) Gengler. He graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1950.  After high school, he joined the National Guard and served from 1950-1958. On February 3, 1953, Gerald was united in marriage to Germaine Sitzman at St. Joseph Catholic Church Neptune and they made their home in Le Mars.  Gerald worked various jobs before starting at Goodyear Tire Shop in Le Mars. He then worked for 25 years for the City of Le Mars in the Street Department. He retired at 62 due to his health.  Gerald and Germaine moved into Plymouth Manor in March 2015.  Germaine passed away on January 28, 2018, and Gerald passed away one week later.Gerald loved to garden, canning the produce from his garden, and taking care of his lawn.  He loved to visit with friends, reminiscing and telling  stories.  He enjoyed making trips to his parent's family farm and visiting with the new owners, Don and Janet Loutsch. He loved pets, especially dogs.  His favorite time was spent with his grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his daughters: Judy (Terry) Reusch and Jean (Roger Nussbaum) Gengler; grandchildren: Ryan Reusch, Jennifer (Brooks) Ray, Chris Gengler, Doug, and Adam; great grandchildren: Ethan Reusch and Peyton, Gunner, and Remington Ray; sister, Jeannette (Gerald) Hohbach; siblings in law: Stanley (Louise) Sitzman, Paul (Barbara) Sitzman, Alyce Reuter, Agatha Sitzman, and Rita Sitzman; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his extended family, the wonderful staff at Plymouth Manor Care Center.Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Germaine; daughter, Joan Gengler (April 2011); brother, Edward; sister, Darlene; and 9 siblings in law.
