Larry Gibson
May 9, 1940 - February 4, 2018

Larry Gibson, 77, of Creston, died Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Mary O'Riley will officiate.

Visitation with family receiving friends will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Powers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be determined later. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.

Larry Wayne Gibson was born May 10, 1940 in Creston to Lois Marjorie (Herzog) Gibson and Wayne E. Gibson. He grew up in Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1958. Larry went on to complete the Creston Junior College's 2 year Program.

In 1960, Larry married Sharon Harmon in Humboldt, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born: Rodney and Brad Gibson. Larry worked with Avco Finance, specializing in Consumer Financing. They moved frequently, with his financing opportunities. Larry and Sharon divorced in 1985. Larry worked with many financial institutions, including Heritage Bank in Lafayette, Colo. Most of his life, he enjoyed bank management and giving direction serving on the Board of Directors.

On August 3, 2002, Larry married Joanne Baczewski in Berthoud, Colo. They moved to Hardin, Montana. He retired in 2006. Then they moved to Wheatland, Wyoming in 2008 and then to Creston in 2014.
Larry was a member of the Rotary International and numerous historical societies. In his early years, he was part of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston.
Larry had a passion for reenacting, studying and archeological work on the Plains Indian War Era, especially Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer's battles and history.

Survivors include his wife Joanne Gibson of Creston; two sons, Rodney (wife Jo) Gibson of Louisville, Colo. and Brad Gibson of Superior, Colo.; two grandchildren, Wendy & Jeremy; his sister Vicki (husband Bob) Kiesling of Creston; numerous nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Kiesling of Creston and Curtis (wife Kathy) Kiesling of Ames, IA.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lois Gibson; and his brother Ronald Gibson.
