Billy Algreen, 87, of Winterset died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Kavanagh on 56th in Des Moines. A visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 8, at Ochiltree Funeral Service where family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 9, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Billy Ray Algreen was born on the family farm south of Dexter, Iowa on May 4, 1930, to Pete and Freda (Jensen) Algreen.  He was a 1948 graduate of Earlham High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While stationed in England Billy met Sheila Richardson and the two were married on June 10, 1953, in Warrington, England. Billy was a farmer all of his life and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Dexter. Many will recall seeing Billy riding his bicycle around Winterset. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching sports. All this said, he was a quiet man who enjoyed time spent with his family. Billy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sheila Algreen of Winterset; children, Teresa (Mike) Hoffelmeyer of Winterset; Phil Algreen of Earlham; Alan (Teresa) Algreen of Earlham; Paul (Deb) Algreen of Dexter; 15 grandchildren, Peter (Jennifer) Hoffelmeyer; Virginia Hoffelmeyer; Patrick Hoffelmeyer; Emily (Ryan) Reidburn; Michaela Hoffelmeyer; Chelsey Algreen; Megan Algreen; Andy Algreen; Alex Algreen; Sydney (Spencer) Hunter; Jordyn Algreen; Tiffany (John) Dunagan; Lindsey (Ryan) Harding; Mike (Nikki) Algreen and Riley Algreen; 13 great grandchildren, Ethan, Lauren, and Brayden Hoffelmeyer; Wesley and Paisley Reidburn; Dawson, Liam, Kellan and Amelia Dunagan; Braylie and Anthony Harding; Jasper and Leo Algreen; a sister, Helen Hester of Earlham; extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Freda Algreen and a daughter-in-law Kimberly Algreen.
