"So sorry for your loss Diane, Billy and your family's. I have so many fond memories of your mom and dad. When I was little I used to knock on the side door and ask her if she had any candy for me. She always did!! When she and your dad came to Port St. Lucie to visit my mom and dad she still remembered to bring me candy ( I was already a grandmother by that time). We all had a good laugh. She is at peace now with your dad and Helene and all the neighbors and having a ball!!!"

Helen M. Gorman, 95, resident of Punta Gorda for 15 years was called to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at home due to complications of pneumonia.
Helen was born to Jessi and John Bauman in Bronx, New York. She was raised by Mary and Charles Vogel along with sisters Tilly, May, Gertrude and Viola, whom predeceased her.
She met and married the love of her life William B. Gorman and followed him to Texas when he was transferred with the Army and started their family with a daughter. After moving back to the Bronx, the family grew as they welcomed a son. After a few years, they moved to Long Island and built their dream home in Mineola, and welcomed another daughter to the family.
As the family grew up Helen went to work part time for the Nassau County school system, and then full time for Franklin National Bank/ EAB in a clerical position. Along the way she met many friends along with neighbors that hosted parties and traveled all over the USA as couples. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed travel, cooking, crosswords, knitting , sewing and Bingo.
Helen was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Helene Petrillo (Joseph) of Dix Hills and also by her loving husband of 69 years, William B Gorman Sr.
She was a loving mother to William B. Gorman Jr. (Penny) of Lady Lakes, Fl, and Diane Gorman-Gonzalez (Dick) of Punta Gorda, Fl. Grandmother to Scott Petrillo (Marla) of Babylon N.Y, Jennifer DeMasi (Dan), Central Islip, N.Y. and Bryan Gorman (Pamela) of Bayonne N.J. Great grandmother to James Page Petrillo "Jimmy" of Babylon N.Y.
All of whom will miss her greatly, and will always cherish all their precious memories.
A visitation will be held at Kays-Ponger and Uselton Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port Charlotte, FL on Saturday Feb. 10, 2018 from 4pm to 5pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow with Pastor David Stewart officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., The American Cancer Society or any local animal shelter.

"Mrs. Gorman, as I called her, was my neighbor from the time I was born until I left Mineola after my wedding. The Gormans were 173 Wardwell Rd., the McNally's were 181 Wardwell Rd. There are so many fond memories of my neighborhood growing up. As kids, it was a wonderful, loving, safe place to be. And our parents, Martha & Mac McNally, the Gormans, the Sweetapples, the Webers, the Hartmanns, and many more, had a great time too! I can remember their parties and bbqs and group trips to Jones Beach and Eisenhower Park. They were great friends for so many years. A week before I got married, I went down to see Mrs. Gorman and asked her to make me two baby sweater sets because I knew I would want to have children some day. Two days later, she came over with a box with two beautiful white knitted sweaters and matching hats! It's funny, but I still have the sweaters! Both my boys were almost 10 lbs. and born in the heat of Florida. The sweaters didn't fit. I just found them again last month when I was cleaning out a closet. I'm waiting for a small grandchild to be born! LOL I also remember the blueberry bush in their backyard. We had an apple tree, and the Gavorski's had a cherry tree. Life was simple then. I believe all the neighbors of Wardwell Road are now together for an eternal bbq in heaven, and are singing along with my Dad as he plays his guitar.
