June 11, 1944 - February 7, 2018

Donald Wayne DeGroot, age 73 of Runnells, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Runnells Christian Church at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Lowman Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Runnells Christian Church or to the Myles and Rylie Beattie Educational Fund. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
The son of Clarence and Artie (VanDenberg) DeGroot, Don was born on June 11, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the United States Army. On July 17, 1971, he was united in marriage to Joan Stickler at the Runnells Christian Church. He retired in 2001, from Qwest as a communications specialist. He was a member of the Runnells American Legion. Don loved to golf and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and NASCAR fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joan; two children, Lisa DeGroot and Billy DeGroot; four grandchildren, Myles and Rylie Beattie and Jordan and Jayden DeGroot; three nephews, Scott Wearmouth, Steven Wearmouth, and Galen Wearmouth; four sisters-in-law, Mary (Merrill) Porter, Marilyn Stickler, Dot Stickler, and Paula Stickler and a brother-in-law, Dick (Bev) Stickler. Preceding Don in death were his parents, and a sister, Judith Wearmouth Swigart
