Obituary of E. Darlene Paxton

E. Darlene "Donnie" Paxton, 91, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Darlene's name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

 

Ethel Darlene Paxton was born on January 17, 1927 in Handsboro, Mississippi, the daughter of Abram W and Nellie E. (Smith) Geil.  Darlene graduated from Keota High School in 1946.  On August 17, 1946, Darlene was united in marriage to Clare W. Paxton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.   In 1949 Clare and Darlene moved to Muscatine and began their own restaurant known as Ann's Café, later including a catering service.  Clare and Darlene also owned Paxton's Buffeteria, Western Corral and The River Bend Antique Mall.   Darlene attended 4 Square Church, Mulford Evangelical Free Church, and was a member of the Chapel of Praise for 10 years.  Darlene loved working with the public, cooking, baking, antiques, flowers and arts.  Her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

 

Darlene will be deeply missed by her children, Gene (Carla) Paxton of Letts, Darla (Gary) Foor and Jeffrey Paxton, both of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Tammy Paxton Wagner, Jason (Joanna) Foor, Jocelyn Paxton and Joanna "Joey" Foor and five great-grandchildren, Jordan and Brooks Wagner, Paxton, Austin and Ella Foor and many nieces and nephews.   

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clare; one granddaughter, Alissa Foor; two brothers, Floyd and Joseph Geil and one sister, Beulah (Billie) Solem.
