Pauline Louise Rockufeler Barrett Services for Pauline Barrett, 96, of Waterloo, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Pauline died Friday, February 9, at her home. Pauline Louise Rockufeler, daughter of Chester Leroy Rockufeler and Sarah Lodemia Mills Rockufeler was born on December 16, 1921 on a farm two miles east of Rinard, Calhoun County, Iowa. She attended Rinard Consolidated School and graduated in the class of 1939 as Valedictorian. She attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. For 2 ½ years she worked as a Secretary in the Farm Bureau/County Extension Office in Rockwell City, Iowa. During which time she joined the Rebekah Lodge in 1941. She later transferred her membership to Temple Rebekah Lodge in Wateloo, Iowa, where she held many offices including that of Noble Grand, following her mother's steps who was a Rebekah member for over 70 years. In July of 1943 Pauline moved to Waterloo, Iowa and worked as a secretary for an officer of the Rath Packing Company. On November 12, 1954 Pauline married Dr. Sterling A. "Arch" Barrett, an eye-ear-nose & throat specialist in Waterloo. Pauline resigned her position at Rath Packing Company in 1960 so that she and Arch would be free to travel. Over the years they made extensive trips to Europe, Africa, the Orient, South America, Australia and most of the United States along with taking several cruises. Arch retired in 1972 and passed away in 1981 after suffering for years with rheumatoid arthritis. After 1981 Pauline continued to travel extensively both in the United States and foreign countries. Pauline was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, serving as an Elder and Secretary of the Foundation Board. She has been a trustee for the YWCA of Black Hawk County, a Foundation Board member of Covenant Medical Center. She has had extensive involvement with Allen Memorial Hospital, the University of Northern Iowa and many other charitable organizations. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Dr. Sterling A. Barrett; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Chester L. & Sarah L. Rockufeler; her brothers, John, Robert and Frank; and her sister, Helen A. Little. She is survived by: two nephews, John Chester "Jack" Rockufeler and wife, JoAnn of Overland Park, Kansas and Thomas L. Little and wife, Alberta of Somers, Iowa; grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; and many friends.
