In loving memory of

Copple, Carol A.
December 10, 1934 - February 7, 2018

December 10, 1934 - February 7, 2018

Carol A. Copple, 83, a long-time Loveland resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at her home. Her family was by her side when the heavenly Father took her hand from us.

There was no stopping her once she set her mind on a goal. She used this same courage and determination in her fight against cancer, which she battled nonstop for six years.

She will be missed by all who knew her sunny optimism and her ability to listen when someone needed an understanding friend.

She was born at noon Dec. 10, 1934, near Gowrie, Iowa, on the farm of her Swedish immigrant grandparents to Carl Adolph and Nora Anderson.

Carol  graduated from Rockwell City High in Rockwell City, Iowa, in 1952, after which she attended Gale School in Minneapolis, Minnesota to learn how to work in the railroad industry. She finished at the top of her class and began working for the Santa Fe Railroad in Barstow, California.

After deciding that she needed to be closer to her aging parents, so she moved to Colorado, which was halfway closer to Iowa. The Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Loveland hired her as an operator. She married Glenn E. Orr in 1953 and the couple had a daughter, Becky. They later divorced and she married Horace C. Copple in 1963. They had a daughter, Heidi.

Carol worked more than 30 years each for Public Service Co. of Colorado, which she called  her dream job. While there, she volunteered to create a wellness program for the company's northern division.

Horace and Carol retired in 1994 and traveled in their fifth-wheel trailer. Eventually, they bought a cabin in Branson, Mo., and enjoyed every minute there.

Carol volunteered with several organizations during her lifetime. She joined Trinity Lutheran Church nearly 65 years ago and served as a member of church council, the worship and music committee and other committees.  She collected recipes from church members and compiled them into a cookbook that was sold to raise money for church needs.

She also was the District 9 President of Credit Women International, a volunteer tenure that included frequent trips to clubs across the western United States. She was active in the local CWI club, too.

She loved to exercise and until recently, walked nearly three miles a day - without fail, accompanied by her husband Horace.  They rode their outdoor bicycles daily for at least seven miles, too. She rode her indoor bicycle about 23 miles a day until a few months ago.

Carol is survived by her husband, Horace who is her beloved rock and caretaker; two daughters, Heidi (Glenn) Padilla of Ault, Colo.; and Becky Orr of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a granddaughter, Rachel Padilla of Ault (who is her pride and joy); three sisters-in-law, Barbara Melton, Myrta (Larry) Melton, all of Loveland; and Doris Anderson of Omaha, Neb.; an uncle, Gloyd Crandall of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Anderson; and two sisters, Bernice Hoke and Norma (Bruce) Fuller.
