Colleen Boyle was called to Heaven on Thursday, February 08, 2018. She passed away at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, February 16, 2018 at Epiphany Parish, Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, February 15, 2018 from 4 pm until 7 pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, where a Rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 6:30 pm, followed by a Scriptural Wake Service.
In lieu of custom remembrances, memorials may be given to the Newman Foundation in Colleen's name.
Colleen was born May 28th, 1927 to Thomas and Marguerite (Burke) Quinn on a farm near McIntire, IA and was raised in Riceville, IA. She graduated from Riceville High School. Colleen was a proud member of the Riceville Wildcats state qualifying basketball team and named to the All-Conference 2nd Team.
Colleen moved to Mason City and worked for Northwestern Bell as a long distance operator for 30 years. She was active in the formation of the union, National Federation of Telephone Workers and participated in the Telephone Pioneers providing community service as a member of the Clown Troop.
Colleen met the love of her life, David Boyle and they were married June 14, 1952 at Holy Family Church in Mason City. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage and together they had 4 children. She was an avid supporter of "all things" Newman where her children were educated. She was frequently seen at sporting events, music concerts and fundraisers.
Colleen was active in parish life at Holy Family and Epiphany Parish where she was a member since 1949. Her gift was in hospitality and making people feel welcome. She was passionate about her volunteer work which included Eucharistic Minister, RCIA, leading the Rosary for Mass and funerals, member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Holy Family Guild, Saint Madonna Circle, and serving on the Parish Council. She began volunteering at Mercy Hospital on March 28, 1982 giving 1,461 hours of her time over 37 years. She also staffed the election polls for many years, served as den mother for the Boy Scouts. Colleen served on the Good Shepherd Auxiliary Board and spent countless hours volunteering with her church circle to host afternoon Bingo with the residents.
Her children and grandchildren were a priority. She enjoyed traveling to see them whenever possible, including a trip to Colorado, Oregon and Washington just 3 days after her 90th birthday. Her love of travel was not limited to her family in the States, but visits to nieces and nephews in England and Scotland as recently as 2014. Colleen also loved the opportunity to travel with her friends; the "Four Amiga's."
She is survived by her children Kevin Boyle, Corvallis, OR, Jay (Sheila) Boyle, Parker, CO, Kathleen Boyle, Puyallup, WA, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister Evelyn Blashill, Aurora, IL, many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, David; son, Joseph; parents, Thomas and Marguerite Quinn; and two brothers, James and Jerald.
