Katharine "Katie" Waite
May 22, 1982 - February 8, 2018
Katharine M. "Katie" Waite (nee Getz), age 35, of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, February 8, 2018.
She was born on May 22, 1982, in Lorain, and lived most of her life in Amherst and is a 2000 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School. After high school graduation, she attended Ohio University, where she graduated in 2004, with her Bachelor's Degree. Then, in 2005, she earned her Master's Degree in Linguistics, also from Ohio University. Katie was currently pursuing her second Master's Degree in Accounting through Penn State.
She was employed at Valley Ford Truck, where she managed and coordinated their fleet division. Prior to this, she was employed at Enterprise for 6 years, also in the fleet management division. Katie grew up being a member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and was presently a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria.
Katie was very involved with ACE, a horse rescue organization. She was so passionate towards rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding neglected horses their new "forever" homes. She also had a deep appreciation for the Friendship APL, from where she and her husband adopted all of their cats. The times that made her the happiest were when she was with her family, especially when she would just be able to spend time at home with her husband. She enjoyed reading a good book, shopping for new clothes, and of course, adored her cats and horses.
She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Alex S., and their 15-day-old son, John Douglas. Katie is also survived by her mother, Barbara H. Getz (nee Leshinski), of Amherst, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eddie and Bonnie Wagner, of Lorain, her brothers-in-law; Sean and Nick Waite, both of Chicago, IL, and her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Katie was preceded in death by her father, John A. Getz, and her grandparents; John and Helen Leshinski and John and Frances Getz.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 13, from 4 to 8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 pm. Rev. Frank P. Kosem, Pastor of St. Jude Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
