Ruby Ward
October 21, 1928 - February 10, 2018

Ruby Goodson Ward, born October 21, 1928, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 10, 2018. She was a resident of Laurel for many years, and she was born in Calhoun City, Mississippi.

Better known as "Mamaw," she loved the outdoors, especially vegetable and flower gardening. She was known by her family and friends as the "best cook around." She loved to cook delicious southern food. She enjoyed attending services at Erata Primitive Baptist Church, where she loved her church family and worshipping the Lord. Holiday family gatherings were some of her favorite times, and she prepared for them weeks in advance. She spent all of her adult life as a homemaker and mother to her four children, which were among her greatest life accomplishments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maude Goodson, her sisters Maxine Kirby and Earline Stone, and her brothers Bill Goodson, Tom Goodson, J.W. Goodson, and Gladys Goodson.

She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Leonard Ward, married 71 years; children Richard Ward (Janie) of Laurel, Donald (Pete) Ward (Sherrah) of Soso, Sandra Ward Brenner (Ken) of Cumming, GA, and Lori Ward Barnes (Jim) of Ocean Springs. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Angie Ward Bynum (Casey), Greg Brenner (Allison), Brian Brenner (Carmen), Tonya Ward Thrower (Philip), John Robert Ward (Brooke), Lance Ward, Mark Brenner (Sandi), Justin Ward, Caroline Smith, and Chandler Smith. She was also blessed with sixteen great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the administration and staff of the Jones County Rest Home in Ellisville for the excellent care and kindness shown during our loves one's illness.

Services will be held at Memory Chapel on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 10:00 am with funeral services following in the chapel at 11:30 am. Elder Jerry Wilkerson will officiate. Burial will be held in Sharon Cemetery.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
