Wayne R. Flowers
July 31, 1947 - February 10, 2018

Wayne R. "Dick" Flowers, age 70, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 10, 2018. He was born July 31, 1947 in Muskegon to Robert B. and Frances E. (Eaves) Flowers. Dick was a 1966 graduate of Mona Shores High School and a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam. On September 21, 1968, he married the love of his life, the former Mary A. "Suzie" Zek in Warren, OH. He worked for Sappi as a pipefitter for over 20 years before becoming a Union Rep for the United Steel Workers Union prior to his retirement in 2008. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, the Viking Linne' Lodge #57, and the American Legion Post #2. Dick was a huge U of M fan, enjoyed working in his yard, and being at the lake. But most importantly, he loved his family, their monthly get togethers, and attending his grandkids sporting activities. SURVIVORS include his wife, Suzie; 3 children: Michelle (Joe) Gravlin, Leslie (Steve) Swanker, Richard (Sarah) Flowers; 7 grandchildren: Joey Gravlin, Alexis (Jordan) Reinink, and Jacob Gravlin, Megan and Robby Swanker, Adelyn and Ryan Flowers; 2 sisters: Betty LaVere of Chicago, IL, Carolyn (Bill) Young of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law: Sue Flowers of San Tan Valley, AZ, Laurie (David) Dodd of Spring Lake, Cathy Bansky of Gilbert, AZ; brother-in-law, Jim (Joyce) Zek of Columbus, OH; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends; and his beloved dog Maggie, that followed him everywhere. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Carson Richard Flowers; brothers: Jim, William "Tom", and Bob Flowers; and sister, Charlotte Edsall. A CELEBRATION OF DICK'S LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 15, 2018 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565, with the Rev. Fr. Godfrey Onyekwere officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, February 14, 2018 and also one hour prior to the service Thursday morning. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery.
