May 19, 1931 - February 10, 2018

Arlene Joan Gigliotti (nee Bell), age 86, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic, Avon.
She was born on May 19, 1931 in Newark, NJ. Throughout her life she lived in Union, NJ, Attleboro, MA, and Columbus, OH, before finally settling down in Amherst, where she has lived for the past 62 years. She was a 1949 graduate of Attleboro High School and a 1952 graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her Bachelors Degree.
Arlene worked for the Lorain County Board of Developmental Disabilities for 15 years, before retiring in 1995. Prior to this, she worked at Ohio State University Hospital from 1952 to 1955. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Amherst. Arlene was an alumni of the Association of Massachusetts General School of Nursing and a member of the Twigbenders Childrens' Conservation League.
One of the most important things in Arlene's life was nursing. She took great pride in caring for her patients. Nurses truly are special people. It takes a special patience and perseverance and a love for people to help them heal.
Arlene loved being surrounded by her family, especially her treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always looked forward to hosting family gatherings at home for spaghetti and meatballs. Arlene enjoyed coaching for CYO, quilting, golfing, and cooking. She took great pride in sewing pillow slips and donating them to sick children who were in the hospital.
Arlene will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Thomas Gigliotti, her 7 children; Thomas (Kim), of Strongsville, Douglas (Brenda), of Elyria, Margaret (Domenico) Pizzoferrato, of Roccacasale, Italy, Timothy (Jami), of Austin, TX, Richard (Lynn), of Vermilion, Mary (Kevin) Linsky, of Marblehead, OH, and Paul (Jill), of Wilmington, NC, son-in-law, Doug Pustka, of San Angelo, TX, 14 grandchildren, and her 3 great grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence, a daughter, Maureen Pustka, and her parents; John and Margaret Bell.
This family, and her role as a mother and grandmother, was the most important thing to Arlene. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy.
The family will be celebrating her life with friends on Thursday, February 15, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 16, at 10:00 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions, in Arlene's memory, be made to either the Murray Ridge Center Lorain County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 1091 Infirmary Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035, or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation/Michael J. Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
