Arthur P. Hess, Jr. passed away peacefully on Feb. 1st in Loveland, Colorado with his family at his bedside. He just recently had resided at Good Samaritan Senior Care yet, had enjoyed assisted living at Bethesda Park Regency in the Loveland community,

Art was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on 1.01.31, to Arthur P. Hess, Sr. and Ruth Margaret Hess. His parents relocated to northern Ohio where Art grew up in the Elyria, Ohio area where the family started their retail pharmacy business, Hess & Hess Pharmacies, in both Lorain and Elyria, Ohio. After graduating from Elyria High School, Art attended Wittenburg University yet, enlisted in the Marines during his first year of undergraduate. He fought in the Korean War during his time in the service from 1952 to 1955 and was always proud of his military service and active duty: receiving the following honorary medals: Korean Service Medal with Two- Stars, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and an United Nations Service Ribbon.

Upon returning to Wittenburg to finish his undergraduate he met his first wife, Barbara Kordula Hess and married in Englewood, NJ in the summer of 1957. They relocated to Columbus, Ohio where they both attended Ohio State University and Art was accepted ito Pharmacy school. It was at that time, their daughter, Barbara Jeanne Hess, was born in Grant Memorial Hospital in 1959.

After graduating from Ohio State Pharmacy School, Art and Bobbi, settled in Elyria, Ohio returning to the family business yet, in 1962 moved the family to Oberlin to launch his own retail pharmacy business named Hess Pharmacy. Oberlin became their home for over 25 years and where their son, Arthur P. Hess III was born. While in Oberlin, Art created a retail pharmacy model which serviced all the local nursing homes, established the Oberlin Clinic pharmacy and managed the Allen Memorial Hospital pharmacy from 1962 until the late 80's. During that time, Art followed his passion for community politics and was Mayor and Chairman of the City Council in the late 1960's and also, was President of the Oberlin Country Golf Club where he helped negotiate the long-term agreement with Oberlin College for the "back nine". Most of all, Art had a love for the Oberlin community and was a considered a leader among the downtown merchants during all of his professional life and led the charge to "shop downtown". After a divorce, he retired in the early 1990's and moved to Colorado to be closer to his son's family, Art Hess III and Lisa Close Hess.

In retirement, Art continued to be an staunch Ohio State Buckeye fan and "game time" was show time. Also an avid reader, Art was known to read several newspapers in a day thus, always up-to-date on current events; loved to debate politics with his grandchildren and transitioned his passion for boats into building famous ship models as in a replica of the legions the "Constitution".

Art was predeceased by his parents Arthur P, Hess, Sr and Ruth M. Hess and his brother Raymond Robert Hess and sister-in-law, Jane Birkman Hess.

Art was most proud of his family and left a strong legacy. He is survived by his former wife Barbara K.
