Phyllis Colleen Simmons
January 19, 1940 - February 13, 2018

Phyllis C. Simmons, 78, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018, while under hospice care at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born January 19, 1940, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Homer and Blanche Lesher McFadden. She attended school in Oskaloosa. Early on, Phyllis married Jerry Mitchell and to this union three children were born, Kyle, Jerri and Kellie. They later divorced. On May 20, 1967, she was united in marriage to George E. Simmons in Oskaloosa. George died November 19, 2011. Early on Phyllis worked as a waitress at Neiswangers Café. She later did factory work at Maurices in Ankeny. Phyllis loved her pets, especially her dog. She enjoyed fishing, cheering for the Hawkeye Basketball team, and the Green Bay Packers. She delighted in spending time with her family especially her children and grandchildren.

Her family includes her two daughters, Jerri (Jim) Karr of Runnells and Kellie (Dennis Stoddard) Headrick of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, Wes and Shane Burk, Kristi and Kyle Headrick, Tyler Russell, and James "Rudy" Headrick; nine great grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Whitlatch of Oskaloosa, her brother, Dale McFadden of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kyle Mitchell

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Vince Goemaat officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday morning from 9 until service time at 10 in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
