Independence - Esther "Ann" AnnaLee Hewlett, 83 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at ABCM Rehab-West Campus, in Independence.  She was born on June 18, 1934, in Wakita, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frederick Allen and Helen Esther (Haines) Bland.  She graduated from high school in Mound City, Kansas, with the Class of 1952. She went to live with her Grandmother Haines in Hutchinson, Kansas, after graduation and worked at the Reno County Court House and it was that move that lead to her meeting Charles Barnes Hewlett.  They were married on April 12, 1953, in Hutchinson. The family moved to Iowa in 1965.  Mrs. Hewlett helped in her husband's print shop until retiring. Also, she, together with her husband, Rev. Charles, ministered for over 40 years at Pine Creek Mission Baptist Church located between Independence and Quasqueton.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence.  Her grandchildren (and children in general) were a major interest in her life.  She enjoyed playing the piano and reading.  Her husband preceded her in death in 2009.Mrs. Hewlett is survived by 4 daughters, Michal "Mickey" Leanne (Derrell, Jr.) Scott and Rachel Ruth (Randy) Salow, both of Independence, Sarah Jane (Andy) Bixler of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mary Martha (Jeff) Lenz of Iowa City, Iowa, 2 sons, Mark Allen (Tracey) Hewlett of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and Timothy Paul (Jennie) Hewlett of San Antonio, Texas.  She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 1 step great great grandson, 2 sisters, Opal Holmes of Sperry, Oklahoma, and Ruth Johnson of Mound City, Kansas, and 1 sister-in-law, Bonnie Bland of Parker, Kansas.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, Charles Hewlett, Jr. and Willard "Bill" Hewlett, 1 daughter, Elizabeth Hewlett, 1 great grandson, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Pastor Lance Fricke officiating.  Burial will be in Pine Creek Cemetery, rural Quasqueton.  Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 18th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.  A Memorial Fund has been established.
