MT. PLEASANT, Iowa - John Lee Shield, 68, formerly of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser Street, Muscatine. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine. Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the funeral home. John was born on January 20, 1950, in Muscatine, the son of Walter Shield and Virginia Greenwald Bluhm.

He was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1968, and Muscatine Community College in 1970. He managed Dick's SuperValu in Mt. Pleasant.

Those left to honor his memory include one son, Cassidy Shield and wife, Amanda, of Wheaton, Illinois; one daughter, Kelly Collins and husband, Brent, of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Elliott, Noah, and Sutton Collins, and Noelle, Nathan, and Zachary Shield; and one brother, Tom Shield and wife, Peggy, of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Dr. Samuel Bluhm; and two brothers, Ronald Shield and Richard Bluhm.
