In loving memory of

Lawrence E. Meyer
August 29, 1945 - February 21, 2018

Lawrence E. Meyer, 72, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at his home in Latimer.

Lawrence was born on August 29, 1945, to Ervin and Margaret (Bessman) Meyer. The family lived north of Latimer on the family farm. Even as a child Lawrence had a compassion for people and a wit to him. Growing up he attended Franklin Consolidated school. In high school he loved FFA, playing his trombone in band, and the choir. During his high school years, he met Janet Fahrmann and they dated for two years. They were actually in the same high school class. Lawrence was in the first high school class to graduate in May of 1965. In the fall of 1965, he attended ISU where he majored in agriculture. On June 6, 1966, Lawrence was united in marriage to Janet Fahrmann and for the rest of that year, they lived in Ames so Lawrence could finish college. After Lawrence finished college he moved straight south of his family farm to start farming with his dad Ervin Meyer. When he first started farming they raised sheep, cattle, and hogs, along with the grain farming.

During his marriage to Janet (Fahrmann) Meyer they had 3 daughters Tamara (Mennenga Miller) Meyer, Rhonda Kay Meyer and Susan (Grett) Meyer. Lawrence loved his family so much. As his daughters grew up any time they needed help with homework or just needed to talk he was there for them. Even as adults if you stopped by he would stop what he was doing and just visit with you. In the summer of 2012, Lawrence retired from farming and him and Janet moved to Latimer. While they were in Latimer Lawrence became part of the city council. He loved his time on council and the council really appreciated him. While on council he managed to help get a street renamed to on the local dentist of Latimer Dr. Wirtz.

Lawrence Meyer leaves behind his wife Janet Meyer, daughter Tamara (Mennenga) Miller-Meyer and her husband Ron Miller, daughter Rhonda Kay Meyer, daughter Susan Grett and her husband Pete Grett, grandchildren Ray (Shannon) Mennenga, Cole (Hinda Moritz) Mennenga, Brandon Grett and Taylor Grett, step grandchildren Darrin Miller, Brittni Miller (Lisandro), Tanner (Sarah) Miller and Christian Miller, and great-grandchildren Sophie Miller, Lucas Miller and Omer Miller.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Ervin and Margaret (Bessman) Meyer and grandson Andrew James Mennenga.

"I had many good talks with Lawrence while doing computer work for him. He always had a story or time to listen to a good joke. I'll certainly miss him."
