Joan Forsyth
December 20, 1923 - February 23, 2018

Joan Forsyth, 94, of Naples, Florida, passed away on February 23rd in Hollywood.

Joan was born on the 20th December, 1923 in Manchester England and was taken in as a young infant and later adopted by Charles and Florence Standring (nee Kirkland). World War II broke out in Europe when she was still a teenager and she enlisted and served in the Women's Royal Navy.
She met William (Bill) George Cameron Forsyth when he was in a post-doctoral position at the University of Manchester and they were married on November 22nd, 1947 in Manchester.

They lived for a short period in Bill's native Scotland and then in 1948, in an adventurous spirit, they moved to Trinidad, where Bill served as a scientist in the British Colonial Microbiological Research Institute and Joan raised their three young sons, all born in Trinidad. In 1959, the family moved to the Republic of Honduras, where Bill worked for Chiquita Brands International. Joan was an ardent supporter of the local community and helped establish and run a food kitchen. There were subsequent moves with Chiquita to San Jose, Costa Rica; Boston, Massachusetts; Kingston, Jamaica; and New York City.

Joan was an avid cook, enjoyed entertaining, and playing bridge and golf.
She is remembered by her friends and family as being full of fun, quick to laugh and having a dry sense of humor. She instilled in her family a love of life and attempted to pass on the manners of the English lady that she was.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2010. She is survived by her three sons, Cameron, Brian and Kevin and their spouses, Annelize, Bill and Maggie, as well as five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, who live in the U.S., and nephews and nieces and their families living in England and Scotland. She is missed by all.

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the staff of The Peninsula in Hollywood where Joan lived for the latter years of her life.
