Barb Yates passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 of natural causes. She was born March 8, 1950 to Zieta Earle. Barb lived with her mother and grandma Winnie Earle and graduated from West High School in 1969. Most of Barb's summers were spent in Fayette, Iowa with her aunt, Gladys and Uncle Alvin Lubbert. It was there that she met and married "the boy across the street, Joe Yates" on May 31, 1969. They moved to California and Washington as Joe finished his enlistment with the Navy. In June of 1970, they returned to Waterloo where they two sons, Jeff and Mike. Barb worked several part time jobs that allowed her to put her family first. She developed heart failure and in June of 1996 she was blessed with a second chance in life with a new heart and forever grateful to the donor family. This allowed her time to see her sons married and start families, providing her with her greatest joys, five grandchildren. Barb became an avid fan of any sport in which her grandchildren participated. Anyone who knew Barb was aware of her love of Elvis and the color purple. She always put others first, she was the rock of the family who we loved dearly. Anyone who knew Barb appreciated her strength, courage and her will to live.
