Michael Bretthauer
April 24, 1948 - February 26, 2018

Michael J. "Mick" Bretthauer, 69, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

A service honoring Mick's life will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Epworth United Methodist Church. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation is 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.

Mick is survived by his sister Mary Burris, Moorland; brothers, Rick Bretthauer, North Liberty; Chuck Bretthauer, Fort Dodge; and Terry (Kay) Bretthauer, Urbandale; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Betty, his brother Phil Bretthauer, his niece Janelle Cravens, his brother-in-law Bob Burris and his nephew Derek Burris.

Michael J. "Mick" Bretthauer, the son of Glen and Betty (Shugart) Bretthauer, was born April 24, 1948, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1966 and Iowa Central in 1968. He attended the University of Northern Iowa, prior to his entry in the United States Air Force, for which he served from 1971 to 1975, including a tour of Vietnam from 1972 to 1973. Following his discharge, Mick returned to Fort Dodge and was employed by the United States Postal Service for 40 years, before his retirement in 2011.

Mick was an avid fan of Iowa State athletic teams. He enjoyed Nascar, watching TV oldies, bike riding and family gatherings.
