FORT WORTH - Catherine Patricia "Pat" Lowry Merrill, 94, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018.
Catherine Patricia "Pat" Lowry Merrill was born March 19, 1923 to Dean Fesington C. and Margaret Gillespie Lowry as the third of five children in Knoxville, Tenn. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. Pat graduated from the University of Tennessee after three years in 1944, as a Torchbearer. She received the Lewisohn Fellowship and the Merrill-Palmer award. Pat met her beloved husband, Billy Merrill, while teaching child development and directing the demonstration nursery school at East Texas State College, now Texas A&M at Commerce, in Commerce, Texas. They were married on August 17, 1946. She was a member of the Junior League, and a board member of the Child Study Center, Clayton Child Care, Fort Worth Association for Retarded Children, Ridglea Hills Elementary PTA, Ridglea Hills Garden Club and Ferando Dance Club. Pat taught Sunday school and she was a Girl Scouts leader. In mid-life, Pat went to work for the Department of Human Services and became Lead Child Development Specialist for the Dallas and Fort Worth offices. Her family was her life. She loved to read, cook, travel, dig in the dirt and play bridge with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Charles Merrill; son, John Michael Merrill; brother, Fes C. Lowry and William A. Lowry; sisters, Margaret Fennell and Sarah Lay; and nieces, Sally Lay and Sherrie Sheridan Moore.
Survivors: Daughter, Catherine "Katy" Gibson and husband, Gary; granddaughter, Catherine Michelle "Mikki" Parent and husband, Jeremy; great-granddaughter, Adriana Parent; and her dearly beloved nieces and nephews, Bill Lowry, Marky Martin, Joe Lay, Tim Lay, Dr. Randolph Lowry, Chuck Sheridan, Merrilyn Pape, Suzanne Sheridan, Phyllis Carter, Charles Merrill and Robert Merrill; and many beloved great nieces and nephews.
