Dorothy M. Walter
April 18, 1924 - February 27, 2018

Dorothy May (Wolford) Walter , the daughter of Carl J and Mina (May) Wolford, was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on April 18, 1924 and passed away at Elm Heights Care Center on February 27, 2018.

Dorothy attended school in Shenandoah and graduated from high school in 1942. She went on to attend Iowa State University where she earned a degree in Institution Management in 1946. Dorothy moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she worked at the Colonnade Cafeteria. Dorothy returned to Shenandoah and married Richard Walter on September 5, 1947. They had four children; Georgia, Denise, Pat and John.

Dorothy was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, DAR, the Rambling Rose Camping Club, Athenaeum Club, Country Guild, NVS Club, and was a 70+ year member of PEO. Dorothy was also active in PTA and 4-H when her children were young. She enjoyed the luncheons with the Class of '42 before moving to Elm Heights. Dorothy also loved traveling with her family and friends.

Proceeding Dorothy in death were her parents, husband Richard and a daughter Pat Barr.

Survivors include brother, Robert Wolford of Chicago, IL; daughters Georgia(Richard Stacy) Walter of Omaha, NE and Denise (Randy) Smith of Bonner Springs, KS; son John (Rose) Walter of Shenandoah; grandchildren Matt (Tiffaney) Barr of Shenandoah, Katie (Kris) Johnson of Bonner Springs, KS, Andrew Smith of Bonner Springs, KS, Nathan Smith of Bonner Springs, KS, Ben (Darci) Stacy of Omaha, NE, John (Sharon) Stacy of Denver, CO, Will Stacy and fiancée, Margaret Duffy, of Milwaukee, WI, Mick (Jessica Falco) Walter of Stanford, CA and Dan (Rachel Jones) Walter of Adel, IA; great-grandchildren Liam Barr, Kegan Swenson, Marshall and Owen Johnson, Elizabeth Smith, Sidney, Jack and Spencer Stacy and Levi Walter; and many other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. Memorial visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Burial of Cremains will be held at a later date at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
