"I posted this on my Facebook last night after mom called me to let me know of Roberta's passing... I've added a little after weighing my emotions overnight. A little over 30 years ago we moved to a house on Petty Rd in Muncie, IN. My mom, Christian, and I had no other family in Indiana. Our grandparents lived in Puerto Rico. Little did we know that we would be blessed with our Indiana Grandparents. Roberta and Charles Dailey lived across the street and from the moment we moved in, they took us in and we became a part of their family. They attended Grandparents Day with Christian and I. They took care of us when mom was working. We played Scrabble and Upwords for hours. (Roberta laughed and laughed the day I, an awkward 12 year old, embarrassingly played the word S-E-X to beat her for the first and I believe, only time). Roberta would play the organ for us. When I left Indiana for college I asked Charley and Roberta to keep an eye on my mom and Christian, Roberta told me not to worry, they'd make sure they were ok. Even after mom and Christian moved away they would follow our exploits and every time I came back to Indiana, there was one thing I made sure I did each trip... visit Roberta and Charley. When I visited Muncie last summer I made my visit to Roberta (Charley passed away 6 years ago) and she told me how she'd finally had to stop bowling, she was 89 years old. She still drove, as long as it was close. She filled me everything going on with Garry, Christopher and Matthew; she asked me about my job & life, how was mom doing?, was Christian doing well? How is Gabriela (my niece)? Nothing had changed after all these years, just catching up on family news. She looked older but still had the same beautiful smile and laugh. I sat with her for about an hour, talking, catching up. As I left that day and hugged her, I knew deep down that I wouldn't see her again. Today she passed away. Whether you believe in God or not, you can't deny that there is something out there that brings you the people you need. You have the family you are given and the family you choose and chooses you. We needed Roberta and Charley. And we were blessed to have them choose us. Godspeed Roberta! I love you and will hold you in my heart forever. Say hi to Charley for me."
