James "Jim" Wallace Pfeffer, of Rochester, MN, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Rochester Rehabilitation & Living Center. Mr. Pfeffer was 91 years of age.
Jim was born December 7, 1926 in Alexandria, MN to Frank and Mayme (Hendricks) Pfeffer. He is preceded in death by his brother, Frank.
Jim spent his formative years in Alexandria before moving to Minneapolis in 1941. On August 6, 1950 Jim was married to Phyllis Bloomer in Morristown, MN, whom he is survived by.
A very social individual, Jim was a lifetime member of the Elks and a longtime member of the Duplicate Bridge Club in Rochester. Jim worked as a plumber for a number of years before starting his own plumbing business, "Pfeffer Plumbing & Heating," which he owned from 1959-1989 and lead him to many long-lasting friendships. An avid golfer, Jim spent many summer days on the courses in and around Rochester with friends and family. When not on land, Jim could be found on any number of lakes fishing and would spend many weeks per year fishing Canadian waters.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Jim is survived by his daughter Tamara (James) Nothwehr, son Mike (Judy) Pfeffer, grandchildren Annie (Tim) Skoraszewski, Scott Nothwehr, Greg Pfeffer, and Brad Pfeffer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home on Thursday, March 15, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Friday, March 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester where Jim and family were longtime congregants. There will be an additional visitation one hour prior the funeral service at Trinity Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be a later date at Oakwood East Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff who helped to care for and support Jim over the years, with special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Rochester Rehabilitation & Living Center, Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center, and Seasons Hospice. "Jim really was a one of a kind guy. He had a great, sweet personality and he always had a smile on his face. It was a joy to spend time with him. I was one of his bridge partners for many years. He loved the game of bridge. He took it serious but always knew it was just a game. Win or lose, he had a good time and made so many friends through the game of bridge. I so admired him for his will to keep going with all his medical problems. He never complained. I am going to miss him a lot. I'll bet Jim has already found bridge partners in Heaven. "Mike, Judy, Greg and Brad... this is one of those milestone moments. The memories come flooding back and you wonder where the time went. Judy's dad was taken too young. Mine passed away just a few years ago. We miss them every day. When I think of my two lifelong friends (Judy Pfeffer (Tipka) and Kristi Olivera (Berg), I can't help but think of LeRoy (Judy's dad), Vince (Kristi's dad, still going strong) and Vern (my dad). All prominent Rochester businessmen just like Jim. I truly believe that our similar backgrounds brought us together and kept us together.
