In loving memory of

James Chittenden
March 3, 1957 - March 19, 2018

James Robert "Jim" Chittenden, 61, passed away on March 19, 2018, at his home. He died of complications of pancreatic cancer. Jim was born on March 3, 1957 in Carthage, Missouri to Bill and Billie Chittenden. His formative years were spent on Main Street where he spent many hours playing army and baseball with the "Main Street Gang" and attending Mark Twain School. He attended Carthage Senior High where he played football, baseball and ran track. He met his bride, Debbie Shanks, while in high school and they married in 1976. They were happily married for 42 years. Jim attended Missouri Southern College where he ran track. He graduated in 1979 with a B.S degree in Biology. He worked 40 years in the food and milk industry as a food safety expert; most recently as Quality Manager for Burke Corp. in Nevada, Iowa. Jim spent his life growing his relationship with the Lord, including sharing His word with anyone who would listen and truly walking the walk. He was a life-long member of the Church of Christ where he was baptized on May 24, 1970. He was also a proud member of The Cherokee Nation.
Jim had many hobbies. He was an amazing vocalist and a gifted artist but hunting was his true passion. He felt there was nothing better than sitting in a tree stand at the break of day and giving thanks to God for the glory of his creation. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan; he never gave up hope that he would one day see the Chiefs in a Super Bowl.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie. His children, Amber Bennett (Chad), Ames, IA. Brooke Guinn, Ankeny, IA. Lucas Chittenden (Sammi), Ames, IA. Draven Mc Peak (Blayke), Ames, IA. "I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of James Chittenden. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our heavenly Father, Jehovah, return your dear one to you. May the Lord, Jesus Christ himself and God our Father who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope through undeserved kindness, comfort your hearts and make you firm. (2Thessalonians 2:16,17)"

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jim. Jim was one of Mark and my earliest friends as we were young kids, having attended the same church. Jim will be greatly missed by the many friends he had and people he influenced. May God grant the Chittenden Family peace and comfort . Morris and Mark Shrum"

"When I moved to Carthage as a 7th grader Jim became a close friend right away, there are so many memories of those years that spread across my mind, times spent in his tree house, times spent trying and finally lifting 100 pounds above our heads, running the neighborhood with Ron Bay, John Norris, and Andy Thomas (man those memories bring a smile), the time he broke his arm during some kind of practice (we did a lot of sports in that place) in the football stadium, just how fast he was in every race from 100 yards to 2.5 miles (he did this in 9 minutes and some change) man he was good, of a good friend that use to come by and pick me up for college every morning (in his ol' 54 Chevy two door) and I was in need of a friend's help and Jim stepped up (use to make me walk across interstate 44 ha ha, but I was thankful for a ride), getting our degrees from MSSC (now a University) and his dream of Vet school. There are so many more events that I am sure others will remember as do I but those are for select few ha ha. He is truly one of kind and I probably didn't tell him often enough how grateful I was to have God place him in my life. I will miss him but I know we will meet again. love ya Jim Gerald (Jerry) LeMasters"

"I only met Jim for about 5 minutes when he was in Denver with Liz not too long ago, but I know how much she loved him and spoke of him. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm assuming Jim never got to see the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, but I bet that when he left this earth, he got to see his Lord and Savior and even the Chiefs would admit that there is no comparison. May God bless your family during this time."
