"Rosie was one of the Titus 2 women in my life, and I'm thankful to know she is now with her Lord God and beloved Savior Jesus Christ! Reunited with her beloved husband, Mel of 43 years, and your father, grandfather. What a blessing they both were to all that knew them, and their love for Jesus. I praise the Lord for bringing them to Vacaville, years ago as Seamen Missionaries! I'm sure they both heard "well done, my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord" as they entered into the gates of heaven. Thank you Jesus for sending a blessing in a beautiful godly woman in a very needful time in my life, who taught me by her example what love of God and love of spouse looked like. I don't think there was a soul that was not touched by her unconditional love she share wherever she went. I loved serving with her! Rosetta Katherine Thumma, 92, of Tipton, died peacefully with her family at her side at 11:50 pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in Cedar Manor Nursing Home. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 24, 2018, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will follow in the Stanwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in Tipton at St. Mary's Parish Hall following the burial. A memorial fund is being established in her memory. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
Rosetta, one of seven children born to Fredrick and Anna Marie Christina (Eichhorn) Rehmke, was born on January 3, 1926 in rural Jones County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Melvin Warren Thumma on August 4, 1946 in Stanwood, Iowa. They farmed near Mechanicsville and later moved to Tipton. Rosie received her R.N. Degree from St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids where she was enrolled under the cadet nurse program. While in training she also worked for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Upon graduation Rosie worked for Cedar Manor Nursing Home until 1983.
Melvin and Rosie moved to California in January of 1984 where they had a map business and did missionary work on the ships. She worked as an RN at Vacaville Nursing Home and served as a hospice chaplain in California. After moving back to Iowa 2001, Rosie enjoyed volunteering at Cedar Manor and Prairie Hills. She loved to play her harmonica, playing dominos and Rummi tile with her grandchildren, along with sharing her favorite candy bar with them, a snickers. Rosie was a member of the Tipton Bible Church.
Rosetta is survived by her children: Eric Thomas Thumma (Linda) of Tipton, and Scott Matthew Thumma (Maribel) of Tipton, Sarah Jane Crock (Kenneth) of Tipton; grandchildren: Corey Thumma, Erica Thumma, Rebecca Wurr, Shelly Sidhu (Sukhwindar), Jennifer Matthess, Nicole McMurrin (Daniel), Alicia Telsrow (Michael), Katlin Crock, Kolton Crock, 23 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Thumma (Robert) of Tipton, Iowa and brother, Harold Remke (Betty) of Oxford Junction, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter-in-law Audrey Thumma, grandson William Matthess, three brothers, Robert, Louis and Herbert Rehmke and her sister, Luella Rehmke.

"I only knew her as Aunt Rosie. She knew and loved my grandparents, which meant I was family. Uncle Mel and Aunt Rosie had many Sunday lunches with all the Arnett clan. When I was in 6th grade Uncle Mel died and my mom and I were with Aunt Rosie when she went back to the house for the first time, without him. She told me not to mind the old lady crying over her man. She truly loved himand it showed. I loved her honesty in her words. She always took the time to truly find out how I was doing when she would see me. Prayers for her family."
"I met Rosie by taking piano lessons, as an adult, with Sarah. Sometimes during the lessons, Sarah and I would do a bit more visiting than piano playing and would start laughing uncontrollably. Rosie would call down the stairs about the 'laughing ladies' and how there didn't seem to be much practicing going on. Which would make us giggle all the more!
