Lillian Marie Eggers
March 2, 1921 - March 23, 2018

Marie Eggers, 97 of Carson, Iowa passed away March 23, 2018 at the Oakland Manor. Visitation, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the funeral home with burial in the Carson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the family.

Lillian Marie Eggers, one of three children of Eugenia Josephine (Sutton) and Earl Emanuel Fenn, was born on March 2, 1921 her parents' farm near Carson, Iowa. Fondly known as "Marie", she graduated from the Carson High School in 1938. She moved to Colorado where she attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where she received her B.A. degree in teaching 1942. Marie taught English and Journalism, along with speech and drama, at Westwood High School in Denver, Colorado for three years. She moved to Cody, Wyoming where she taught for over 20 years before returning to her hometown of Carson, teaching there for one year and in nearby Oakland, Iowa for a year. Marie obtained her Master's degree in Education with a specialization in reading from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Marie taught primarily in high school and junior high field. She taught at Lewis Central in Council Bluffs, Iowa for 13 years, retiring in 1986. She followed up her retirement by substitute teaching at the Riverside High School and Middle School for 18 years.

Marie and Robert Hillebrenner were married in Denver in 1945 and were married for 26 years. They were blessed with two children, Joan Marie and Scott Donald.
Marie and Eldon Frederick Eggers were married in 1972. Marie's family grew to include Eldon's children, Greg and Dana. They were married 25 years when Eldon died in 1997.

Marie was a faithful member of the Community of Christ Church in Carson (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints) and held the priesthood office of Priest. She was a member of the BHB Club, a local women's community club, and served as president. Marie was a member of the Chi Omega Social Sorority, Sigma Epsilon Sigma Honorary Sorority, and Spur-Honorary Pep Club. She received the "Teacher of the Year" award while at the Lewis Central Middle School.

Marie passed away at the Oakland Manor on March 23, 2018, at the age of 97 years and 21 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eldon Eggers; granddaughter Angela Eggers; brother Earlin Fenn; sister Lois Boruff and husband Willard; and former husband Bob Hillebrenner.

Marie is survived by her daughter Joanie Smith of Barstow, CA; son Scott Hillebrenner of Kingman, AZ; Eldon's children, Greg Eggers and wife Gwen, and Dana Eggers and wife Diane, all of Carson; numerous grandchildren; sister-in-law Lila Fenn of Oakland; nieces and nephews; her church family; and many friends.

She always had a smile for everyone and when we would go to the Jazz session she would be sure to play a waltz for us so we would dance while her smile got even bigger. She will be missed.
