Thomas Malcolm Trump, PhD., age 60, of Columbia City, IN passed away on Friday March 23, 2018 at his home. Born on December 7, 1957 in Columbia City, he was the son of Malcolm Hugh and Lois Margaret (Gregory) Trump.
Thomas attended local schools and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1976. He then attended Indiana University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in history in 1980. Thomas earned his PhD. In political science from the University of Minnesota in 1987.
On June 20, 1987 Thomas married Rebecca LaBissoniere in Saint Paul, MN. Thomas was a devoted stay at home father for his children, and family time was very important to him. He also enjoyed investing, reading, watching classic movies and television programs, and sports, especially the Chicago Bears and Indiana Hoosiers.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca Trump of Columbia City; daughter Claire Sylvia (Alan) Trump-Ahrndt of Columbia City; son Adam Thomas (Mattea) Trump of Fort Wayne; granddaughter Aria Marilyn Trump, and one grandchild on the way; siblings Charles Trump and Becky Dahms, both of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday March 29, 2018 at the funeral home.

"Becky, Claire, Adam (Trumps, Sheets...), I am heartbroken at your loss. I'm still struggling to believe this is real and not some cruel joke. We were blessed by being children of the "Gregory girls," three amazing women, two of which had families that spent a lot of formative time together. Summers on the Indiana farms were about as ideal a venue to, play, have fun and grow-up as I can imagine. Tom, Nick, Julie and I played and played, both on Lois' and Malcolm's farm, and on MALOEN. Tom, stayed with us in Buren and Friedburg Germany, the Philippines, and then with my parents (and Julie) in Morfelden Germany. Those memories, and the fun we had, will never leave me. When I spent a year in the US during my junior year of High School, Tom made me a part of his circle of friends, making that year a highlight, rather than an ordeal. His friends, remain my friends, even today; which is a gift. I lived with Tom and Charles my freshman year of college in a total dump of a trailer (along with "Mr. Witch"), and next door to "Dr. Strange" and his thousand-or-so cats, who reminded us of their presence olfactorily every single day. Despite the place being a dump, we had a great time in Bloomington. I think Tom's commitment to studying hard and doing well, helped shape my own study habits that freshman year. In other words, he helped show me the way to succeed in college. Our frequency of contact waned over the years, but I was fortunate to briefly reconnect with him, and with the extended Trump family, on occasion; most recently at Claire's wedding. Tom was a hugely proud parent, and it's obvious (if you're lucky enough to meet his kids) why that might be. I'm grateful to have had Tom in my life, as a cousin and as a dear friend. I will miss him deeply while doggedly reminding myself that having him here for a brief time is far better than not having him here at all. "

I particularly remember Tom visiting us in Germany so that he could perform his graduate research project. It was wonderful to spend time with him. I remember that he got up in the middle of the night (German time) so that he could watch the Bears play. Apparently, it was a close game because I recall muffled yells from the TV room! He was so concerned the next day that he might have kept us awake! Tom was a special person. I am grateful to have known him. I will miss him very much. "
