Thomas F. "Tom" Homer, 80, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Tom was born on April 2, 1937, in Evanston, Wyoming, to Virgel and Reba (French) Homer. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. Tom was united in marriage to Joan Buss on November 27, 1967, in Galena, Illinois.
He had several jobs until he started working at Greene Limestone, where he worked for over thirty years until retirement. Tom and Joan also owned and operated Homer's Hi-Way Café and Dumont Video. He was a member of the Dumont American Legion. Tom was an avid Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed playing cards, watching TV, collecting pocket watches and watch fobs and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife Joan Homer of Dumont, daughters Val Moore of Dumont, Tammy and husband Kelvin Krull of Clarksville and Erica Hovatter of Waterloo, grandchildren Justin Moore, Staci and husband Matt Petersen, Cody Bertram, Kurt Krull, Mariah Krull and Todd Hovatter, step-grandchildren Sara and husband Joe Harrington and Krystal (Jason Davis) Krull, four great-grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren, sister Dora Oitzman of Mesa, Arizona, brother Virgil Homer of Aredale, brother Mike Creeden of Riverside, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, son Todd Frost, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, as well as several other relatives.
