"Charlie is my friend. For years now we have talked every Thursday while he lived at Miller's. You see, I led the devotional service for those in both the assisted living section and the Rehab section and got to know this remarkable man over the years. When he was in the Assisted living side I would go around and remind all of the residents about the devotional service while they were eating lunch and ask them if they were coming to the service. Every time, Charlie would say that he was not coming that he had a nap to get to and then just before the service would start, Charlie would walk in and take the seat right in the front, grinning from ear to ear. We would talk before and after the service about his Architecture career, the buildings he built both here in Indianapolis and the one in DC, about Notre Dame, the Catholic church, he being Catholic coming to a Protestant Devotional service and just what ever was happening in the news. I came Maundy Thursday early to Devotions to see him, knowing that he was getting ready to go home in the Lord and got there just 5 minutes after he left. I had watched the dimentia steal his body, his life, his memories, but never his spirit. As I stood next to his bed and offered a prayer, I noticed a smile come across my face as I suddenly realized that Charlie was now as Charlie was always intended to be. Perfect! Faithful! My Friend and now face to face with Jesus his friend and Lord. Charlie, I am going to miss you so until we meet again, May God bless you and hold you in the palm of his hand."

Charles E. "Charlie" McGuire,
95, of Indianapolis, departed this life Thursday, March 29, 2018. Charlie was born March 21, 1923 in Indianapolis to the late Michael E. and Blanche T. (Sowar) McGuire. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps in the European and North African Theatres. Charlie then earned his degree in architecture in 1949 from the University of Notre Dame. He then reentered the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the Military Assistance Advisory Group at the American Embassy in Brussels, Belgium. Charlie worked his entire life as an architect for several firms throughout the country including his own, McGuire Architects.
He was a Past Extended Ruler and Secretary of the Indianapolis Elks lodge #13. Charlie was also a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Construction Specifications Institute serving as a fellow and past president of Indianapolis Chapter CSI.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christina Louise McGuire and sister, Mary Elizabeth Carney. Charlie is survived by his dear son, Michael McGuire and devoted grandchildren, Erin (Eric) Lee, Patrick (Sara) McGuire and Shawn McGuire. Charlie is also survived by his beloved big brother, Joe McGuire.
Visitation for Charlie will begin at 9:30 am on Thursday, April 5th at St. Luke Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment follows at Calvary Cemetery. "Charlie went on several golf trips with us to Myrtle Beach, S.C, Santee, N.C. He and I took 10 day excursion to Saint Anne De Beaupre Shrine in Quebec about 10 years ago. He was a wonderful companion, but a terrible navigator!! We had many laughs afterwards about he got us lost. Wonderful man and a faithful Catholic. At one time he had the keys to St. Luke Church as he never missed a day and opened the church before anyone arrived--------wonderful memories. Luv ya--man Bob Wahlstrom"
