Clara Anne Bettenhausen
September 28, 1933 - April 1, 2018

Clara Anne Bettenhausen, daughter of Judge Albert and Catherine (Hill) Arms, was born September 28, 1933 in Dunning, NE and attended elementary school there. Clara moved with her family to Lincoln, NE in 1947 where she attended St. Theresa's Catholic School, Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska.

She married Harvey Bettenhausen on February 14, 1953 in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE. She was employed by Sears in Topeka, KS in their credit department, Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln in their payroll department, and Nebraska City Community Schools. After living in Nebraska the first 16 years of their marriage, Clara moved with her husband, Harvey, and their two children to Emmetsburg in 1969. She worked for Emmetsburg Community Schools for 26 years until her retirement in 1996. After her retirement, Harvey and Clara spent several winters in Arizona.

Clara died on Easter Sunday, April, 1, 2018 at the age of 84 in Emmetsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; parents, Judge Albert and Catherine Arms; four sisters: Edna Moninger, Margaret Arms, Helen Arms, Mildred Toombs; and two brothers: Albert Arms, Jr. and George Arms. She is survived by her two children, Dr. David Bettenhausen of Findlay, Ohio and Linda Renner and her husband, Kevin of Omaha, NE; and one grandchild, Elena Renner of Omaha, NE.

Clara was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the church circle. She was also a member of several bridge clubs.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
