Ruth E. McCraine
April 1, 1918 - April 2, 2018

Ruth E. McCraine, of New Castle and formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away at Henry Community Health on Monday, April 2, 2018, the day following her 100th birthday.

She was born April 1, 1918 in Washington D.C., a daughter of the late Edwin and Helen Ada (Schuh) Pflueger.

Ruth was an elementary teacher. Teaching was more than a profession, it was her passion. She earned a master's degree from Ypsilanti University in Michigan. Following retirement, Ruth tutored children at the West Page Improvement Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was a member of Shenandoah First Presbyterian Church. Ruth enjoyed quilting and going to quilt shows.

Those left to cherish Ruth's memory included three children, Alan McCraine (spouse: Pat Cronk) of New Castle, Janet Williams (spouse: David) of Bluemont, VA and Ned McCraine (spouse: Melinda Macy) of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James M. McCraine in 1982; one brother, Theodore Pflueger and one sister, Mary Curtis.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home and Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home

Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Veterans Memorial Chapel in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Her son, Pastor Alan McCraine will officiate the services.
