In loving memory of

Dale Gene Barrick
May 20, 1958 - April 3, 2018

Dale Gene Barrick, 59, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Franklin General Hospital, hospice unit, in Hampton, following a year long battle with brain cancer. He was born on May 20, 1958 in Hampton, Iowa to Russell and Leona (Schmidt) Barrick. Dale graduated from Hampton High School, continued his education and graduated from NIACC and Iowa State University.

Dale was united in marriage to Teresa Baltes on May 2, 1981 in Hampton. The newlyweds lived south of Hampton while he farmed and worked for Bob Abbas. Following the birth of the couple's first son, they moved to the Coulter area. Several moves and two children later, they built their dream home northwest of Hampton. Dale worked for Eaton Corporation in Belmond and Spencer for almost thirty-five years, in various positions, most recently as an EHS manager, earning a number of recognition awards.

Dale was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton and served on various boards, was a lector and an usher. He enjoyed mowing his lawn, tending to his vegetable gardens and housework.....yes, housework including the windows. Dale took an active role in his children's and grandchildren's lives. He was president of the Franklin County Baseball Association for ten years and coached baseball for his two sons. Dale loved his grandchildren dearly and would do anything for them, even grocery shopping. He continued a tradition of taking his grandkids to the "Horsey Park," aka Harriman's Park, started by his father-in-law.

Dale is survived by his wife, Teresa of Hampton; son Ian Barrick of Greene and his children Taryan, Mason and Addison; daughter Ashley and husband Jeremy Rodamaker of Iowa Falls and their children Kaden, Owen and Leila; son Chase and Elissa Barrick of Spencer and their daughter Quinn; siblings: Dennis and wife Joan of Iowa Falls, James and wife Cheryl of Hampton, Kenneth and wife Carrie of Pella, Laura and husband Phil Johnson of Belmond and Roger of Clear Lake; along with his aunt Shirly Schmidt of Belmond, and uncle Duane Renberg of Thornton and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Leona, along with aunts and uncles Walter Schmidt, Richard and Cora Schmidt, Carol Renberg, David and Joan Nolte and George and Mary Kinseth.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I enjoyed working with Dale (and later, Chase) at Eaton in Spencer. He was a genuinely nice person, who cared about his fellow coworkers. There were several times on a Friday when he would order pizza for lunch, and then invite me down to share with him, and we'd spend our lunch break talking about our children. I am a better person for knowing him. He will be missed!"
